Position: Business Marketing Intern

Direct Report: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Hours: 10 hours per week for up to 6 months
Location: Travel to the A121 office for work and to other Indianapolis locations for site visits or events. Permanent office is being relocated. In the interim interns will work at Brookside Community Church located at 1035 North Olney Street.

Goals of Internship
Increase knowledge about human trafficking and social justice.
Learn and experience the operations and programs of a non-profit startup.
Apply classroom knowledge and theory while furthering the mission of Ascent 121.
Spiritual growth and discernment of the role you may be called to in anti-trafficking.
Intern will meet every other week with supervisor to review goals and progress.

Internship duties may include but are not limited to:

Increase knowledge about human trafficking through review of resources provided:

  • 31 Days of Freedom – In Plain Sight Devotional and Study Guide

  • Toxic Charity by Robert Lupton
  • Girls Like Us by Rachel Lloyd

Participate in events and programs sponsored or supported by Ascent 121:

  • Tour runaway unit at Lutherwood Residential Treatment Center for Youth
  • Prayer support for Unconditional ministry strip club outreach (participation in this event will require a board member chaperone)
  • Community events
  • Teen outreach events
  • Set up and staff trade show booth

Office work:

  • Provide weekly timesheet
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Social media and blog
  • Fundraising
  • Volunteer recruitment
  • Research and maintain a target donor database to include churches, middle schools, high schools, non-profits that serve faith or youth populations, foundations, Indiana schools that have anti-trafficking groups
  • Research and maintain database of organizations similar to Ascent 121: abolition groups, recovery homes, task forces, human trafficking resources
  • Monitor recent global and local news related to human trafficking
  • Research and maintain database of grant opportunities relevant to Ascent 121
  • Prepare grants
  • Compile a list of 300 scripture verses and quotes to be used for social media
  • General office work including email, filing, light cleaning
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Provide end of internship review

Campus work options:

  • Host a 90-minute focus group of 6-10 students. Present Human Trafficking 101 PowerPoint, show video clip, facilitate a discussion on how to raise awareness and engage students in combatting human trafficking, report findings to supervisor
  • Host an event at your school for the purpose of fundraising and/or raising awareness (presenting

  • Host devotions using 31 Days of Freedom
  • Host Chosen: The True Story of America’s Trafficked Teens (video and discussion)
