The Commercial Sexual Exploitation Needs Instrument—4th Edition (CSENI) is a structured clinical decision-making tool that is designed to identify critical treatment needs and guide treatment planning for youth engaging in elopement and experiencing- or at significant risk of- commercial sexual exploitation. One of the critical challenges in working with youth who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation is accurate conceptualization of both the challenges and strengths of the youth in a manner that not only includes the youth themself, but also their community, family, and peers.

The CSENI has been in development over the last decade. In partnership with the University of Indianapolis and other local specialized providers, the instrument has undergone four revisions based on feedback received during the evaluation of efficacy to reflect statistical validity.  Additionally, research efforts examining the statistical reliability properties of the instrument are promising and show strong indication for consistency.
